Succinct, structured compositions frame delicate line- and color work.

The Square series consists of three sub-series: Square in Minor is a closed set of six drawings introducing the series’ foundational parameters and setting the stage for further exploration in the following Square in Major and Square in Color open and ongoing works.

The series emerges in response to a personal time of transition and global times of uncertainty with a conscious and deliberate reduction of medium and simplicity of process. The chosen techniques call for considerable time of calm, focused concentration of body and mind.

In process, within the supportive frames of strong, steady compositions, subtle, intimate waverings of the hand convey the rhythm of a changing breath as breath responds to thought.    

Even with, or maybe because of, its intentionally restrictive framework, the work invites collaborative interventions. I See You as You Are, an ongoing series of collaborative works with Lisbon-based screen print and collage artist Hilke Hanke began as a direct conversation with the Square series and has evolved into its own distinct body of work. Square series began in Lisbon in 2022.
